Anurag Thakur: I&B ministry blocks 45 YouTube videos under IT rules, 2021

Based on information provided by intelligence agencies, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting ordered YouTube to block 45 videos from ten YouTube channels accused of broadcasting “community sensitive content likely to disturb public order and threaten the security of India”.

The videos were found to spread fake news such as claims that Chinese spies had infiltrated the Indian government or that the government was alienating a certain community. Videos with fake content about Agnipath program, Indian Armed Forces and even J&K have been blocked. Some of the videos that were taken down showed an incorrect depiction of India’s outer border with parts of J&K and Ladakh outside Indian territory. “Such misrepresentation of maps has proven to be detrimental to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India,” a statement from the ministry said.

The ministry had also requested the removal of a video of YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, accused of presenting a wrong map of India, but YouTube only blurred the map and did not remove the video, according to officials from the ministry. ministry.

The order to block the affected videos was issued under provisions of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Code of Ethics) Rules 2021, ministry sources said. However, all blocked content was covered by Section 69A of the Information Technology Act 2000.

Examples include false allegations such as the government stripping religious rights from certain communities, violent threats against religious communities, a declaration of civil war in India. The blocked videos are from channels such as Inquilab live, Hind Voice, Desh India Live, 4 PM, the Live TV, National Adda, Getsetflyfact, Mr Reaction Wala and a channel run by Congress party politician Vinay Pratap Singh Bhopar, at except Rathee’s YouTube. channel.
