How to prevent YouTube channels from appearing on your Smart TV?

While you’ll find it easy to navigate YouTube on your desktop and smartphone, navigating on your Smart TV can be a little tricky. Sometimes even more so when you need to use functions you rarely need. One of these rarely used options is to “block” a YouTube channel. Today we are going to show you how you can block YouTube channels on your Smart TV.

It can also be useful if you want your feed to remain child-friendly. “Blocking” on YouTube doesn’t work quite the same as it does on other social media platforms. Although you will never see blocked content on your personal YouTube feed, you may still encounter it on other websites.

Here’s how you can stop YouTube channels from appearing on your Smart TV

Although some smart TVs allow you to report offensive content on YouTube, the option to block a YouTube channel may still be inaccessible. Fortunately, there is a quick workaround that will block certain channels on your Smart TV.

Step 1: Sign in to YouTube on your laptop or phone with the YouTube account you use on your Smart TV.

2nd step: Visit the page of the YouTube channel you want to block.

Step 3a: If you’re using the YouTube app on your phone, click on the ellipses at the top right of your screen and press the “Block User” button.

Step 3b: If you use the YouTube website on your laptop, go to the “About” section of the YouTube channel and click on the small flag that appears on the right side of your screen below the statistics graph. Click “Block user”.

Step 4: Connect to YouTube using your Smart TV. Changes you make to your account will apply to all devices on which you sign in using that account. Therefore, you will not be able to view the blocked channel on your Smart TV.

If you’re interested, there are other ways to restrict content on your device instead of blocking it. Whenever you come across an unwanted video, just click on the video icon ellipses and select “Not Interested”. You will also find several other options like flagging content as offensive. The YouTube algorithm will make sure that you don’t see any more videos from this content creator in the future.
