The 3 Best YouTube Channels for Home Garden Inspiration

WHICH WEEKEND GARDENER didn’t want to take courses in horticulture or landscaping to make the most of his little corner of Eden? A series of YouTube channels dedicated to plotting and home planting, created by both professionals and super-enthusiastic amateurs, puts that dream within reach. Here, our three favorites.

The canvas to plant

A fine art painter by trade, Sao Paulo native Siloé Oliveira not only covers shovels and gardening seeds on his YouTube channel, suburban farm. He also applies his visual insight, via 3D sketches, as he guides viewers through the development of his garden in Frederick, Maryland. “I try to share the principles that I learned in the study of art to help people create more pleasant and harmonious spaces,” he said. In a recent episode of his “Cottage Garden” series, for example, the self-proclaimed weekend gardener highlights concepts like balance, symmetry, rhythm and proportion as he places beds for a vegetable garden next to his modest Victorian home. And before it splits and transforms the concrete from a narrow, sidewalk-like strip into an inviting, curved path (it’s frugal, too), it injects a lesson in conjuring a sense of place. He also gives practical advice like this: The easiest way to determine sunny spots in your garden is to note where the snow melts first.
