A popular South Asian channel consolidates its position at the top of the charts while racing for the record books. Meanwhile, further down the chart, the long and short form hubs continue to compete for position, with the two formats taking over 20 spots in the rankings.

T-series starts this month as it ended the last one: outperforming the rest of the world.

The Indian label, which operates the most-watched entertainment channel on YouTube (and, for that matter, the most-watched channel of any kind), retained the top spot in the Global Top 50 this week. After receiving 660.3 million weekly views, T-Series has surpassed 195 billion lifetime views on its main channel. At its current rate, it still has a chance of reaching 200 billion views before the end of the summer.

Cocomelon – nursery rhymes remained at No. 2 in this week’s Global Top 50. The animation hub ranked higher in the global rankings than any other US-based channel. Receiving 590.9 million weekly viewsCocomelon saw a slight drop in traffic week-over-week, but the drop was not steep enough for other chains to catch up.

Aside from T-Series and Cocomelon, the only other channel to add more than 500 million views to its lifetime total this week was SET India. Content destination adjacent to TV is hooked 553 million weekly views, which led him to a #3 finish in every way. He was third in the Global Top 50 last week, third again this week, and ranks third among all top 50 entrants in lifetime views. Unsurprisingly, the two chains that precede it are T-Series and Cocomelon.

The sister channel of SET India, Sony SA, followed just behind. The Sony-owned hub, which offers lighter tariffs than SET India, retained fourth place in the Global Top 50 thanks to the 411.8 million weekly views. This audience was large enough to push Sony SAB beyond 80 billion lifetime YouTube views. It’s a big week for round number milestones.

Speaking of milestones, BETER BÖCÜK now has more than five million subscribers. The Turkish channel’s arsenal of short videos has earned it 409.5 million weekly views during the week that was.

Top Winners

The global top five remained unchanged this week, but further down the Top 50 there was plenty of movement and shaking. One of the biggest jumps came from a chain based in France, Very funny 2022which applied some YouTube Shorts best practices to improve its position in the charts.

“Very funny” translates to “very funny”, and that’s what the French hub videos are all about supposed be. If you think a Very Funny clip isn’t humorous enough, maybe the channel’s cackling laugh track (similar to the one used by Just Smiley) will change your mind. Some of the “very funny” clips mean nothing to me, but others have a slapstick quality that needs no explanation.

If there’s one strategy the average YouTube short film producer can take away from Very Funny, it’s “use as many emojis as possible.” The 20 most-watched Very Funny clips average about five emojis per video title. Of course, the “crying laughing” variety is particularly well represented.

Using so many emojis might seem like the stuff of a teenage text message, but Very Funny turns laughing faces into massive audiences. For seven days, the French channel obtained 266.5 million weekly viewswhat was 74% more visits than the amount recorded a week ago. This improvement has pushed Very funny to 62nd place in the world up to 19th, and the hub also has over a billion lifetime views. Finding success with weird, sometimes weird shorts? Now that’s funny.
