A K-pop group is breaking records with an eclectic new music video. YouTube Shorts creators get millions of views with short videos. And all these trendsetters are trying to catch up with the top Indian channels.

Tops

SET India took the top spot in our Global Top 50 for the third week in a row. The South Asian television network, which has enjoyed long-term success on YouTube by sharing clips of its shows, added another 622.5 million weekly views to its lifetime total in the third week of August. The Sony-owned hub was the only YouTube channel to register at least 600 million views this week, and it continues to build an archive of viral videos. 116 of his clips have garnered at least 50 million views on YouTube.

T-series came in second place behind his compatriot for the third week in a row. The Indian label rarely falls below second place, and its current position is even a bit anomalous. His 593 million weekly views weren’t quite enough to keep up with the pace he set in June, but he’s nearing a milestone. Next week, we expect T-Series to get its 200 billionth view on its main YouTube channel.

Third place in the World Top 50 goes to Cocomelon – nursery rhymes. The US-based animation center won 565 million views during the week that was. This figure represented a slight increase from Cocomelon’s previous weekly total, and thanks to its continued success on YouTube, the California-based operation is still the most-watched US channel in the world.

Another US-based chain followed just behind Cocomelon in this week’s Global Top 50. LeoNata family was able to pick up 514.5 million weekly views to position itself in 4th position for the second consecutive week. The short channel has seen tremendous growth since posting its first YouTube Shorts clip less than a year ago. He has since received 13.7 billion lifetime views.

Sony SA rounds out this week’s world top five. SET India’s sister channel recovered 417.9 million weekly views.

Question: What do you get when you combine a traditional Korean instrument called a gayageum, a wonky bass line, and a West Coast rap breakdown?

Answer: Black Rose‘the latest single,’pink venom.’

The K-pop group – made up of members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa – just delivered YouTube’s biggest music video premiere of 2022. And it’s not the only “Pink Venom” record broken. Thanks to the success of the song, Blackpink reached 7th place in our Global Top 50, which is the highest position achieved by a musical group this year.

In total, Blackpink counted 377.8 million weekly views during our last seven-day measurement period, and it has more than 25 billion lifetime views in all. Last week, the K-pop group’s channel dropped out of the Top 50, which tells you just how much impact “Pink Venom” has had.

Blackpink has racked up billion-view music videos since the days before the shorts, but YouTube competitor TikTok helped the quartet’s latest single pay the dirt. The #PinkVenomChallenge invites viewers to give the new video a spin by uploading YouTube Shorts clips inspired by Blackpink’s dance moves. Challenge submissions are currently being accepted, so Blackpink’s time in the Global Top 50 may not be done.
